The correct understanding of the nature of reality relative to the self and phenomena according to the Mahayana interpretation of the two truths, the four noble truths, and the Heart Sutra – and also that within the continuum of all beings with a conscience exists the ability to generate the wish to become completely enlightened. Within the Zen tradition, there is not a huge emphasis on study of the philosophical tenets; but the two, a Teacher and practice/study combined will help you get much closer to your goal.
