The monks who lived in remote regions of Japan were self sufficient, growing their own food and using simple tasks such as sewing to meditate, practiced what is known as Zen Buddhism.
is this true or false?
what is the difference between zen and regular?

I have contacted several Zen Centers mostly buddhist and all of them ask for a monthly mememberships. I am poor so I can’t enroll. I was under the impression that the Zen Buddhism principles did not include monotaries purposes to run such organization. I understand that people can pledge based on their personaly incomes but a Zen Center in my opinion should not ask for money to their future students. The choice is theirs to pledge if the feel too. Sidartha will probably choked to know that :) . I guess I am going to stay home without a teacher to show me the way :)

I used to be an extremely depressed person. A couple years ago I was on so much medication that I could open my own pharmacy. This past year I have gotten into Zen Buddhism. I have no need for the medicine anymore and no longer have to go to a therapist. Learning Zen has made me a much calmer person. I have learned to live every moment of conscious life to the fullest. I learned to let go and move on. So anything that used to get me to break down, is nothing to me now. I don’t cry anymore, as opposed to pre-Zen days when I would cry EVERY single day…not exaggerating. I have become very accepting of the people and events that take place in my life. I have never been genuinely happier. And everyday is new for me just by thinking about ‘beginners mind’. I put up this question to see if anyone else has had their life changed because of practicing the Zen?

Hey
Something I’ve always wondered – why are there so many different aspects of Buddhism? Say for example you have Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, Esoteric Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, etc (Forgive me if I have some of the names wrong, Buddhism is not my strong point).
Is there actually a difference in practices? If there is no difference in practices, why the different names?

I’ve heard of “Christian Wicca” I’ve studied both Zen Buddhism and Wicca, and have a feeling of connection to both. I would like to know if anyone else has blended these two very different but beautiful paths?

Why do Zen Buddhists shave their heads? Why do Tibetan Buddhists have crew cuts? Why do all of them shave their faces? I have sometimes seen Chan monks, in movies, with facial hair. Can they have facial hair in real life?

Im a Christain right now and I believe In Jesus and what he did and that he is the only way and I have been a christian since I was a small boy but now were studying Buddhism in world history and im learning SO much about Buddhism and it has a lot of the same basic principles about how to live your life and Buddhism makes SO much sense to me. Buddhism doesnt worship the statue of Buddha, they worship one All Powerful god just like Christianity but they just put a statue of Buddha in there house as a symbol of joy, happiness, and wisdom. And I was going to convert to Zen-Buddhism, they have all the same beliefs as regular Buddhists but they believe that once you live a few lives and after a few reincarnations and moving closer to god adn becoming one with god that there’s a heaven after that happens instead of just being freed from the reincarnation cycle (kinda like Christianity except with reincarnations). Should I just convert to Zen-Buddhism or what? I dont no what to do!!! HELP!!!

Until recently, I was convinced that Taoism was simular to zen buddhism, excepting a person of worship. I was under the impression that the closest thing to worship, of any form, was to ‘the way.’ Recently my friend took a small religion class and she claims that taoism has a ‘buddha’ that is idolized/worshipped.
Can someone clarify for me?
